Foreword to the exhibit catalogue:
The Newington-Cropsey Foundation is proud to present the
photographs of Marcia Due. The Foundation is dedicated to the works of
Jasper Cropsey and other Hudson River School artists, but also exhibits
current artists whose work depicts nature in a realistic fashion.
Although stylistically diverse, the artists exhibited at the Foundation
all share Cropsey’s interest in nature and man’s effect on the natural
landscape. Marcia Due is no exception – her photography captures the
natural beauty of upstate New York while also highlighting the "life
cycle" of various man-made structures and their role in the surrounding
landscape. In essence her work illustrates the fact that everything,
even man’s creations, returns to nature, as the dilapidated barns and
sheds eventually disintegrate and recede into the landscape. Her photos
are poignant and evoke nostalgic feelings, while also highlighting the
natural cycle of decay and renewal of nature, and thus, man.
