Richard Wingate Serrin was born in Evanston, Illinois in
1928. After a tour in the US Army, he studied at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Mr. Serrin
received his BA and MFA from the Cranbrook Institute of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

After
painting in Taxco, Mexico for two years, Mr. Serrin returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota
where he maintained a studio for several years. In 1964, Mr. Serrin and his wife, Dorothy
Bunke Serrin, moved to Amsterdam. In Amsterdam he painted and studied at the
Reichsmuseum.
The Serrins then moved to Florence, Italy, where they and their two daughters, Saskia
and Aletta lived for over thirty years.
