a retrospective of the works of richard serrin

 

Richard Wingate Serrin was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1928. After a tour in the US Army, he studied at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Mr. Serrin received his BA and MFA from the Cranbrook Institute of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Venice, Richard Serrin

 

After painting in Taxco, Mexico for two years, Mr. Serrin returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he maintained a studio for several years. In 1964, Mr. Serrin and his wife, Dorothy Bunke Serrin, moved to Amsterdam. In Amsterdam he painted and studied at the Reichsmuseum.

The Serrins then moved to Florence, Italy, where they and their two daughters, Saskia and Aletta lived for over thirty years.

 


Mr. Serrin has taught painting and drawing for many American programs in Florence including:

- The Rosary College Graduate School of Art
- New York University in Siena
- Ohio University program in Florence

Mr. Serrin has been artist in residence at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta (1989- 1991) and currently teaching at Hillsdale College in Michigan.
