Introduction to the exhibit
catalogue: |
| |
|
The
Newington-Cropsey Foundation was founded in 1977 in order to preserve
and share the work and home of the artist, Jasper F. Cropsey. Cropsey’s
life (1823 – 1900) and paintings were dedicated to creating works of
beauty that reflected the hand of God in nature. His works are marked by
their fidelity to nature, ethereal skies, and spiritual overtones. |
| |
| The Foundation’s
Gallery of Art Building opened to the public in late 1994. One of the
first exhibitions shown in the new building was Beauty: A Rebirth of
Relevance (winter 1996), a retrospective exhibit of the works of
Richard Lack, Donald Koestner, Stephen Gjertson, and Kirk Richards. This
exhibit highlighted the Foundation’s goal of exhibiting paintings that
reflect beauty and spirituality, which, in the post modern art world,
are increasingly relevant and lofty artistic goals. The exhibition also
demonstrated that the existence of classically trained artists with the
diligence, craftsmanship, and inspiration to create beautiful paintings
that are timelessly meaningful to the human spirit. |

TRIAD:
Three American Painters,
continues the Foundation’s tradition of bringing to the public the very
best in classical realism, landscape paintings, and traditional art.
Stephen Gjertson and Kirk Richards are joined by Steve Armes in
exhibiting representative examples of their wide ranging artistic
talents. I would like to thank these three wonderful artists for
permitting the Foundation to borrow and display their paintings. I would
also like to acknowledge Barbara Newington for her continued
graciousness, generosity, and vision.
