Old China Hand, United States Marine Corps |
Charles Waterhouse has answered
his country's call to service in two capacities. As a young marine, he
was injured on Iwo Jima in World War II. Later he toured Viet Nam with
the Marine Corps as a civilian artist. Based on his work, he was chosen
by Marine Headquarters to illustrate the history, "Marines in the
Revolution". His paintings and devotion to the Marine Corps earned
Colonel Waterhouse the title of "artist in residence of the US
Marine Corps", the only such individual to have been bestowed that
honor.
The
Colonel
Charles Waterhouse Historical Museum is located in Tom's River, NJ.
We thank the museum and Colonel Waterhouse for their generous loan to
the exhibit.
