cultural studies center The Newington Cropsey Cultural Studies Center was established in 1990 by The Newington Cropsey Foundation. The Cultural Studies Center is dedicated to the principle that the arts play a crucial role in shaping our thinking and values. Its mission is to foster the relationship between the artist and society by encouraging meaningful dialogue among visual artists, historians, curators, poets, architects, composers, philosophers and civic groups. Underlying this enterprise is the belief that there is a fundamental human need for beauty and spiritual values. The Cultural Studies Center explores and defends the relevance of classical concepts in today’s institutions and culture, based on the conviction that the arts are a perennial resource in sustaining and advancing civilization. The Center also celebrates the creativity of the individual, acknowledging that it is imperative for the arts to reflect the many voices of the diverse American community. By bringing together artists and the public, we seek to strengthen the cultural and spiritual fabric of our nation. |
