by Fredrick Hart is mounted over the main entrance to the building.
The banner of "The Herald" reads "Truth, Beauty, Goodness"
Mr. Hart was the first recipient of
the Newington Cropsey Foundation's annual Artist of the Year
award in 1998 |

The Cropsey Gallery is a beautiful
octagonal room in the Gothic style, based on Cropsey's studios in
"Aladdin", his home in Warwick,NY, and
"Ever Rest", his home in Hastings on
Hudson, NY.

On display in the Cropsey Gallery
is the most extensive collection of the works of Jasper F. Cropsey
in the world. The collection is hung in the traditional manner of
the nineteenth century. The entire room is meant to embody the
setting of a nineteenth century parlor,
utilizing oak paneling,
exposed oak beams, and period furniture along with a small sitting
room in which a traditional fireplace is situated. The Cropsey
Gallery is open to the public by
appointment. |

The main staircase in the center
of the Cropsey Gallery leads to the second floor Exhibition Gallery
where temporary exhibits and art shows
are held. There are three or four large exhibits shown in this
gallery each year, along with many smaller exhibits, lectures, and
conferences
